impressionable
some days it’s overwhelming to be a working mom but i’m beyond thankful that the days i’m away, gracie is well cared for by my mom or jed. when i take a step back, i realize that it’s a privilege to do the work i do. lately, gracie has seemed to understand what i do when i go to work. she knows that i go to the hospital to work and i help take care of sick kids. i am proud. that is the reason we exist…to help others. i am thankful that i can teach my daughter this at such a young age and i truly believe that she…

a letter from jalia
Your purchases really do make a difference “Dear Noonday, Please send our love to all of the ambassadors. Tell them we really appreciate the work they do for us.Every one of us would love to share how noonday orders have changed our lives. Right now we give work to more than 60 women in the Acholi quarters of Banda. These are the women who were displaced by the war in northern Uganda. We have a group of 30 women in the lweza village, 20 women in Sseguku and another 20 in Kitende. All these women did not have any other source of income, and now they are able to support…

naptime thoughts
the terrible trying two’s have been humbling. refining.i have learned so much about my own sin and blemishes through disciplining my own child. it is a great responsibility to discipline children with grace and represent god’s love to them at the same time. i recently read and article by john piper where he stated these truths:“”Children, obey your parents in the Lord, for this is right” (Ephesians 6:1). It makes no sense that God would require children to obey parents and yet not require parents to require obedience from the children. It is part of our job — to teach children the glory of a happy, submissive spirit to authorities…

one unforgettable birthday
i will never forget this day. almost a month ago, the most amazing little being came into our lives through foster care. we instantly fell in love, she was a fighter, a true miracle given her rough beginning to life. we nourished her. we nurtured her. we loved her far beyond what we believed our limits were. she instantly sprung to life, grew, developed, thrived. from the beginning of our journey with caring for the orphan, our goal and desire has been adoption. we have been careful about which placement to say yes to and waited for the “right” child to bring into our home. i hoped that the “right”…

monday monday monday
did you see this mercy ships spotlight on 60 minutes last night? made my heart skip a beat as i have always admired this organization. mercy ships is actually a major reason i became a nurse. i had no idea that healthcare or caring for the sick could look like this- so selfless and merciful- and i strive to make that the core of who i am as a nurse. in other monday news:gracie finally has a fear: the dark! still a daredevil when it comes to jumping off of high surfaces and telling me to go away so she can swim all by herself! but at least she understands…

haiti is ALWAYS on my mind
it’s amazing how one week can completely change you. i had the privilege of having a skill that was in high demand when the haiti earthquake hit. i had the opportunity to participate in medical relief work and the result of that has been life changing. although i was able to be an extra set of hands, use my nursing knowledge (although completely different from the things that i would see) and offer a huge compassionate heart, the truth is, i didn’t save the world or really make an enormous difference. but i said yes, and i got to experience a new culture and a nation that i could continue…

supernatural words
i truly believe the Lord intentionally places people, stories, memories, etc in your life to speak to you and these two stories on friend’s blogs this week are speaking so LOUDLY to me. just when i’m feeling so confused and honestly just stuck in dreaming about the future children of our family, i hear God saying, just be patient and wait for ME. http://leemeandthegirls.blogspot.com/2013/05/enter-hope-guest-post.htmlhttp://dreamingbigdreams.net/2013/05/20/adopting-from-foster-care/
